This week we have learned a lot about literature. Literature is any single body written works. I thought literature was just a short story or just something that someone or yourself have read, I thought it could even just be what a class was actually called because we did a lot of reading or writing but that is not the case. Literature is all around you. Books and writing are part of literature so if you think about it literature is literally all around you.

This week we did a lot of editing and revising our creative writing that we wanted to write about this week. I had a lot of revising to do, anything from punctuation to re-writing whole sentences. When I revise something I usually have to read over it multiple times to finally figure out how I am going to fix it. When I was revising my creative writing I went through each paragraph and read it about three times because I couldn't pick up what was wrong with what I wrote but after reading it three times I would find something I had to fix and sometimes it was something as small as I spelt something wrong or forgot a period, and sometimes it was something major like one of my sentences made no sense at all. As I went through my creative writing a few time I never actually was able to finish revising it completely because it took me so long to actually read through it. I tried to read my creative slowly when I was going through it, I didn't read it to slow to the point where it made no sense but I read it slowly enough I only had to go through each paragraph about three times to find mistakes I had made. I have learned that revising your own work is actually difficult because sometimes you know that your writing is bad and you don't want to go back and read through it so when you finally do go back and read through it you think that everything is shit and sometimes it can just be that you can't really find anything in wrong in your writing because you think it is good and other times its just hard to fix mistakes. esl.fis.edu/learners/advice/wp-revis.htm This week I have learned how to revise something that I have wrote. For example for the last few weeks we have been writing something called a creative writing and what it is is just writing about anything pretty much, but we do get a prompt if we don't know what to write about. I have been writing on one of the prompts that we had given to us that had something to do with a man in black. We had to decide what one one the creative writings we wanted to write about and I decided to write about the prompt of the man in black. This week the teacher decided to have us revise out own writing. I didn't get very far in revising my own writing but the little bit that I did do helped me figure out how to revise my own writing. When you revise someone else writing it is much easier to revise because you haven't ever read it before and and can find the mistakes much easier. When I was revising mine I had to re-read it multiple times to find mistakes and try to figure out how I can fix them by myself. So what I am trying to say is that I learned that in order to revise your own writing you have to read carefully because it may or may not take you a while to find the mistakes and figure out how to fix them. www.cgpbooks.co.uk/interactive_tips_exam I learned that all the pictures that someone has made tells a story of some sort. Every picture that you have ever seen has some kind of story behind it whether it just be a bunch of scribbles or a lady sitting in the grass staring at an old house. When you draw something you usually have a story behind it. Sometimes When I draw I don't draw with any kind of intention on my drawing having a story behind it but at the end of my drawing it does have a story behind it because I put thought into it. Sometimes all I draw is a picture of some flowers and trees and to me that has a story behind it, maybe it was something that I seen that I thought was really pretty and the image stuck in my head so I drew it. Every drawing or painting that you see sit and look at if for a few minutes even a few seconds and think about what the story behind the painting or drawing could possibly be. when you are drawing any kind of picture you probably don't put any thought into it but as you continue to draw most of the time you start putting thought into it because its actually turning out to be something that you like and you want to continue on drawing because you like what you see so eventually there will be a story behind it. lucasmuseum.org/collection/narrative-art This week in AP lit I learned about visual metaphors. A visual metaphor is a picture that represents something that you have read and that will remind you what you read. It is a representation of a person, place thing or an idea. When you make the picture of a person, place thing or idea it has to be something that represents what you are making the picture about, if the picture has nothing to do with what you want it to be then when you look back on the picture you won't remember what it is about. A visual metaphor can help a lot of people out and it can help a lot. When I did this project I didn't think it was gonna work but now that I did it when I look at the visual metaphor that my group and I did I can understand exactly what it represents and it makes a lot of sense to me it it actually helps me out a ton. A visual metaphor can be any kind of picture that you want as long as it makes sense to you and when you look at the picture you will remember what the picture is about. Visual metaphors is something easy to do to remind you and represent a person, place thing or idea that you have seen and read. There is no wrong metaphor. Everyone has their own ideas about how to make a visual metaphor and someone else's metaphor may not make sense to you but it will make sense to the person who made it. www.thoughtco.com/visual-metaphor-1692595 This week I learned that if your writing and your writing doesn't make sense just continue to write and at the end everything will come together. Everyone writes different and and if you're writing just write and write and write don't look back on what you are writing until the very end and if it doesn't make sense go back and fix a few things up until it does. I have learned that whatever you are thinking about is a really good thing to write about because you can pour your heart out when you're writing about it. What I mean when I say write even if it doesn't make sense is just saying that whatever you write down on paper or even type on a computer or laptop doesnt have to go hand in hand, you writing doesn't have to make sense at all you can write a million different things down and it doesn't even have to be about what you are writing about. Write what is on your mind. While writing just write what is on your mind. When I Write I use to write and rewrite whatever I was writing many times because it didn't make sense, once I was told to write and not think about if it's making sense or not writing got a hundred times easier for me. Now when I write I write with confidence and just write what I am thinking, sure it doesn't make sense actually a lot of the time it doesn't make sense but as I continue to write everything comes together even if it still doesn't make a lot of sense. You can go through at the very end when you are done writing and fix whatever you have written to make more sense. english.glendale.cc.ca.us/speed1.html This week I learned that speed does not matter. When I am reading I can read at my own pace and understand what I am reading. Reading is not a competition, everyone reads at a different pace, some people read eight pages in ten minutes, I read about five pages in ten minutes which means I can read about sixty pages in one week. When I use to read I would speed through the reading because everyone would get done way before me and I felt like I wasn't reading fast enough but when I was speed reading I had no idea what I was reading about, when I read at my own pace although it may not be as fast as some people I can understand everything that I am reading. Everyone has their own reading techniques and everyone's is different so make sure to use the technique you are most comfortable with. As I continue to read through the year I do hope that my reading skills improve dramatically. So in this first week of school I have learned that just because some people can read faster than you does not mean you should try and speed through your reading to get it done when everyone else does, read at your own pace and you will understand everything that you are reading. I have also learned how to do a reading rate and what that is, is how many pages you can read in a certain amount of time and then you multiply that by 12 and whatever outcome you get out of that is how many pages you should be able to read in two hours. Everyone's outcome will be different because everyone reads at a different pase. |
