english.glendale.cc.ca.us/speed1.html This week I learned that speed does not matter. When I am reading I can read at my own pace and understand what I am reading. Reading is not a competition, everyone reads at a different pace, some people read eight pages in ten minutes, I read about five pages in ten minutes which means I can read about sixty pages in one week. When I use to read I would speed through the reading because everyone would get done way before me and I felt like I wasn't reading fast enough but when I was speed reading I had no idea what I was reading about, when I read at my own pace although it may not be as fast as some people I can understand everything that I am reading. Everyone has their own reading techniques and everyone's is different so make sure to use the technique you are most comfortable with. As I continue to read through the year I do hope that my reading skills improve dramatically. So in this first week of school I have learned that just because some people can read faster than you does not mean you should try and speed through your reading to get it done when everyone else does, read at your own pace and you will understand everything that you are reading. I have also learned how to do a reading rate and what that is, is how many pages you can read in a certain amount of time and then you multiply that by 12 and whatever outcome you get out of that is how many pages you should be able to read in two hours. Everyone's outcome will be different because everyone reads at a different pase.
